NFAP is a partnership organisation, run for and with the support of statutory, voluntary and community partners. NFAP has a number of core partners, who form a strategic steering group, overseeing the management of the partnership and its activities.

In addition, NFAP's small staff team works closely with a number of Associate Partners to develop and deliver activities and projects that improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Newham.

Core Partners

Newham Primary Care Trust

Newham Primary Care Trust leads on many areas of food and health and is a key funder of NFAP. It is working with the London Borough of Newham to address obesity in the borough through an evidence based programme for overweight children and their parents; and by providing training for health professionals to help adult patients manage their weight. The PCT also runs a Long Term Conditions team, which includes a community nutritionist who works with individuals and groups. The community dieticians, working in primary care, support many patients to improve their diets and their health, for example those with diabetes, or obese patients.

The PCT, in partnership with the Council, is responsible for commissioning services that support better health outcomes for Newham residents, which include health services and facilities, social care services, and community-designed and delivered health improvement activities. They are also responsible for ensuring the wider influences on health and wellbeing (such as the quality of the environment, access to employment, transport, and green space) are health improving. From April 2009, the PCT will no longer be responsible for the direct provision of health services (such as Community Nurses and Health Visitors), but will solely commission other organisations to provide these services.

The Healthy Lifestyles lead for Newham PCT is Tim Baker, Assistant Director of Public Health.
